Preview: Stocksbridge Park Steels vs Warrington Town

Warrington Town return to Northern Premier League action tomorrow as they make the journey to South Yorkshire to face Stocksbridge Park Steels.

The Yellows were dumped out of the FA Trophy at the first time of asking last weekend, after suffering a 1-0 defeat away at Hyde United.

Despite it being relatively early in the season, Saturday's clash against the Steels is an important fixture given that both sides find themselves amongst the bottom four, with Town one point behind their opponents in 19th place.

A victory for Paul Carden's side would see them record just their second win of the campaign, which would move them above Stocksbridge and within the next nearest rivals, Whitby Town, who have played three more league games than the Yellows.

It would also be Warrington Town's first-ever win at Bracken Moor, after failing to pick up three points in their last six outings, which last dated back to the 2007/08 season.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Reece Daly came through training unscathed on Thursday night after being forced off at half-time of the FA Trophy loss at Hyde United with a hamstring strain.

New signings Niall Watson and Chris Doyle go straight into contention for their debuts. There will be no Bohan Dixon or Dontai Gabidon.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden believes that Saturday's fixture away at Stocksbridge Park Steels is a must-win game for his side.

The Yellows' only league victory this season came at home against Ilkeston Town in August, and with recent cancellations and rescheduled games, they have had little opportunity to put things right on the pitch.

The Steels, who are also on the hunt for their second win in the NPL, sit one point above Town in 18th place. But with two games in hand over their opponents this weekend, Paul Carden's side will be keen to put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone with a win at Bracken Moor.

"It's definitely a must-win game," Carden said following the defeat at Hyde United.

"We're in a position now where we've got another game missing in terms of Tuesday's game against FC United of Manchester.

"We've got to win [against Stocksbridge]. Make no bones about it - it's an important game."
