Preview: Oxford City vs Warrington Town

Warrington Town make the trip to Oxford City this Saturday in a crucial fixture at the bottom of the National League North.

Fresh from their 1-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra in the Cheshire Senior Cup, attention returns back to league matters as the Yellows search for an important three points.

Paul Carden's men currently sit nine points adrift of safety after this weekend's hosts secured a 2-1 victory away at South Shields last Tuesday, but they know that a win in Oxfordshire could provide them with a much-needed boost heading into the last seven matches.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Josh Amis sat out Tuesday night’s Cheshire Senior Cup win over Crewe with a groin problem, which forced him out of last week’s league game against Radcliffe at half time.

But he, alongside everyone except long-term absentees Evan Gumbs and Elliot Morris are in contention for selection.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden believes that while the situation they find themselves in is becoming increasingly desperate, there is hope of mounting a late-season fightback which must start this weekend.

With nine points separating them from safety, this weekend's clash against the team occupying that all-important spot, Oxford City, is perhaps their most pivotal fixture of the season.

Nevertheless, Carden is hoping that his side can find inspiration from the likes of Marine and Radcliffe as an example of how a side can find form at the right time.

"We need to stop losing and win games – it’s as simple as that,” he said.

"There’s eight games to play. People will be sick of hearing me say there’s points to play for but there are.

"We’re not daft, we’re understanding of the position we’re in and we’re there because we haven’t won enough games but at the same time, we’ve got to look at Marine.

"If there’s ever something to aspire to, it’s a team that were below us that have gone on an unbelievable run in the last seven or eight games to probably put themselves safe.

"It can be done – we’re obviously realists, but we’ve got to believe.

"[The final eight games] are all must-win.

"With the way the bottom of the table is, Radcliffe and Marine are probably done now in terms of being safe.

"Oxford have got games in hand, so it is massive and a must-win."
