Preview: Easter weekend

A busy weekend beckons for Warrington Town over Easter, with two games coming up in the space of three days.

First up is a trip to Ilkeston Town on Saturday, before the much-anticipated Warrington derby at home to Rylands on Bank Holiday Monday.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of both fixtures.

Team news

There are no fresh injury concerns ahead of the Easter double-header.

Manager Paul Carden is expected to give minutes to members of the wider squad, given the close proximity of both games.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden insists his players must learn lessons quickly from the recent defeat to Whitby Town if they are to enjoy success over the Easter weekend.

A disappointing previous outing saw the Yellows fall to a 2-0 home defeat, but with two games on the way in quick succession, there is no better time to make amends at the first attempt.

"The defeat against Whitby was probably the epitome of the season where the lack of game nous, lack of playing the state of the game and the conditions, and the understanding of what’s needed in certain moments just eludes us in games," Carden said.

"Our home form is top five, but that game was like an away performance. We go a goal down and we’ve not enough nous to seize a moment and get back in to the game. The proof of that is how many times we’ve come from a goal down this season.

"We’ve said before that everyone’s always got something to play for, but some lads will be in for a shock come the summer.

"The teams I’ve had in this division in the past at this club have always had that last 10 minutes where we’re going to batter their goalmouth, batter the box and something’s going to happen. Don’t rule us out, even at 2-0 down if there’s only 10 minutes to go.

"We’ve got a weakness in us, and a lack of understanding of how to do that. We’ve got decisions to make on players, and the Whitby game will stand out when I’m making those decisions.

"What we need is to get back to us having as many of our reliable players on the pitch. It’s about showing that consistency, playing to your strengths and each other’s strengths.

"The players who we’ve got now have still got things to play for, and that’s what’s key."
