Sean Williams: We’re full of belief

Midfielder Sean Williams says morale in the Warrington Town squad is high after they extended their unbeaten run to a club record 15 matches. 

A 2-2 draw at home to Whitby Town in midweek left the Yellows third in the Northern Premier League table, three points adrift of second-placed Hyde United.

Despite failing to make their advantage count in midweek as two points were dropped, Williams insists the squad’s nature leaves them in a good position ahead of Saturday’s clash with fellow promotion rivals Bamber Bridge. 

“I don’t think confidence has ever dropped with the lads,” he said.

“The changing room is always full of quality and belief, no matter who you’re sat next to.

“The lads back themselves and each other more than anything, and it was like that from the first minute of pre-season.”

On the close-knit nature of the group, Williams added: “The gaffer has always said that we aren’t going to carry numbers for the sake of it, and I fully agree.

“The group is really tight, so if you’re coming in you need to be a special character as well as a special footballer. 

“We’re always on the phone to each other, talking about football and asking about how our families are, and that really helps us create a motivated set of lads.”

Ahead of Saturday’s home game against Bamber Bridge, Williams stressed the importance of having a vocal crowd for their second home game in less than a week. 

A win would see the Brig leapfrog the Yellows in the league table with eight games remaining, with both teams looking to put pressure on the teams above. 

“If you look at the fans who are coming, they’ve been great,” he said.

“We’re hearing the drum, we’re hearing more songs. I feel like, as a group, we’re closer to the fans than we’ve ever been. 

“It really helps, and we’re going to need every bit of that encouragement.

“This league is unforgivable, a tough challenge no matter where you are in the league. We just want to keep playing well and getting more wins on the board.

“We back ourselves, and we hope that the fans will back us against anyone at this level. 

“It’ll be a tough run-in, and we need everyone to be on our side like they have been for the rest of the season.”
