Sam Gill determined to grasp first team opportunity

Warrington Town midfielder Sam Gill says the opportunity to represent his hometown club in the National League North has left him feeling more determined than ever to take his game to new heights.

After a series of brief substitute appearances earlier in the campaign, Gill has become a mainstay of the starting XI in recent weeks, starting each of the last three games.

Two of those appearances came over the Easter weekend, with the 20-year-old featured on the left wing against Marine on Good Friday before starting in a more natural central position during Monday's goalless draw with Southport.

"It was a proud moment to represent my hometown club," he said.

"I started off around five years of age at Warrington, and this club has been a big part of my football journey so far.

"It has felt great to be on the pitch and get a chance to prove what I can do at this level. Hopefully I can pay back the faith which has been shown in me.

"I’m feeling confident that I’ve developed my game enough to be able to cope with the demands of this level, so I’m looking forward to seeing what comes next season and progressing further."

Much of Gill's time this season has been spent either on dual-registration at NWCFL Premier Division side Northwich Victoria, or featuring for the Yellows' Under 21s.

Following his recent move into first team surroundings on a more permanent basis, the talented midfielder believes he can use the lessons learnt during his time at Northwich to boost his overall game heading into the 2025/26 campaign.

"Playing at Northwich has really helped me to understand different parts of my game," Gill added.

"It’s a completely different game to what I’ve been used to, but one that’s really helped me develop physically.

"It’s been very beneficial being able to play full games twice a week in men’s football too, as I’ve really been able to push on and work on the different aspects of my game.

"I would like to thank everyone at Northwich Victoria, from the club officials and coaching staff to the volunteers on a matchday. I’ve enjoyed playing my football there, and I wish them all the best moving forward."
