Report: Warrington Town Women 3-1 Blackpool

Emily Savage’s penalty capped off a pristine performance from the Yellows as they earned themselves a place in the next round of the Alliance Design & Print Plate after defeating Blackpool 3-1 in Great Sankey.

Town were looking for redemption after previously suffering a colossal 7-1 defeat at Mossley Hill.

They succeeded in getting back to winning ways thanks to goals from Paige McCloskey, Nicola Chatterley, and Emily Savage.

Warrington had the better start of the two teams with a big chance in the 8th minute after Chloe Green’s header from Rachel Dickenson’s corner was cleared off the line by Blackpool's Alice Earnshaw who was solid at the back for the Seasiders.

However just a minute later, the Yellows had another corner opportunity; another ball whipped in by Dickenson which found the head of Paige McCloskey, and this time the ball found the back of the net thanks to the New Zealander.

The Yellows remained solid both in and out of possession for the rest of the half but no more goals followed for the first 45 minutes.

The cheers continued coming for Town in the second half after both Nicola Chatterley and Emily Savage bagged their first goals of the season.

Shortly after the second half kicked off, Chatterley received the ball from McCloskey’s throw-in and took it into the box thanks to a beautiful first touch, and the finish was equally as impressive as her ball control.

Chatterley was later brought down in the box and the referee had no choice but to point to the spot.

The Yellows had appealed for two penalties earlier on in the game after two possible handballs from the Seasiders but they weren’t awarded.

Fullback and Player of the Match Emily Savage stepped up to the spot and stunned everyone with a rocket that flew into the top left corner which left Blackpool goalie Rhiana Moore with no chance of stopping; a goal that was the cherry on top of a solid performance she had all game.

The Seasiders got a goal of their own shortly after Chatterley’s finish with Lauren Oatley being allowed time and space and catching Yellows goalie Katie Donohue off guard with an excellent finish that looped over the defensive line and fell into the corner of the net.

Consistency showed for Warrington who again were solid both in and out of possession for the second half which allowed Town to maintain their two-goal advantage.

The Yellows return to league action next week as they welcome Litherland REMYCA to Warrington, a match which both teams will be looking to take a crucial 3 points from in the hopes of avoiding relegation.
