Top scorer Reece Daly struck a late winner as Warrington Town came from behind to beat Prescot Cables 2-1.
The Yellows had trailed to Thomas Scully’s first-half opener but got back in to the game thanks to Jack Doyle’s strike on the hour.
They piled on the pressure late on and it eventually told, with Daly meeting Jay Harris’ cross with a side-footed volley in the 89th minute for his ninth goal of the season.
Warrington were unchanged from the start from last week’s 2-2 draw at FC United, with two changes on the bench seeing the return of Max Thompson and Matthew Tweedley.
Within five minutes they had hit the post, good play by Joe Rodwell-Grant on the right setting them forward, and the ball eventually found Katia Kouyate on the left and he got at his man and fired a shot off the face of the post.
Rodwell-Grant fired wide at the near post from a James Melhado cross before the game turned in to a bit of a non-event, with constant stoppages.
Prescot were forced to make two first-half substitutions, Sharif Deans and Scully coming on for Sean Hogan and Paul Murphy-Worrell, and it was Scully who broke the deadlock out of nowhere on 29 minutes.
There appeared to be confusion as Prescot lined up a long throw from the left, the referee blowing his whistle and signalling towards the benches, and the Yellows felt they were unprepared as a result when Prescot quickly threw the ball in and Scully was found in acres of space at the back post to fire home through the legs of Jamie Jones, making his home debut in goal.
Still rattled from going behind, the Yellows nearly fell two down when John Murphy sprung the offside trap and was only denied by an excellent strong left-handed save by Jones.
Jones also pulled off an excellent one-handed save to deny Tony Donaldson late on in the first half, though the offside flag had gone up anyway.
The Yellows were keen for half-time to regroup, but they were nearly handed a lifeline when Matteo Spinelli scuffed a free-kick from near the corner flag, Kallan Murphy bringing it down 30 yards out only to be brought down by Alex McNally, who was booked.
Sleeves were rolled up at half-time and within three minutes of the restart, Harris nearly equalised inadvertently, arriving late to head a Kouyate cross against Francis Smith, but nearly scored anyway when the ball ricocheted off his right foot as he fell to ground.
Smith went down prior to a Yellows corner which caused a delay of a few minutes, but from it, Prescot failed to clear and off a second Daly cross, the ball fell to Doyle inside the box and he curled a shot in to the bottom corner.
Although the Yellows were now having much more of the game, there was still a lingering threat from Prescot on the break, though that largely subsided when Murphy went off on 76 minutes.
Daly’s free-kick on 82 minutes from the left evaded everyone and then hit the far post before substitute Elliott Morris cracked a shot a yard over the bar after being found in a good position by Melhado.
But the Yellows finally got the goal they were craving in the 89th minute, Daly getting goal side of his man and meeting Harris’ inch-perfect cross to make it two home wins from two in 2026 and extend their unbeaten run to seven.
