Report: Kidderminster Harriers 2-0 Warrington Town

League leaders Kidderminster Harriers consigned Warrington Town to a fourth successive league defeat on their first ever trip to Aggborough.

After a goalless first half, Kidderminster stepped up a gear early in the second half and they broke the Yellows’ resolve 10 minutes after the restart through Reiss McNally’s header.

When Maz Kouhyar fired in a second five minutes later it looked like things might get ugly for the Yellows, but they managed to end the scoring there, although their woes were compounded by a late red card to midfielder Matty McDonald for two quickfire yellow cards which will rule him out of the relegation six-pointer with Farsley Celtic next week.

The Yellows started the game on the front foot and Josh Amis was denied by ex-Yellows ‘keeper Christian Dibble inside the first 60 seconds with a header at the back post from a Joe Rodwell-Grant cross.

Amis, playing up front alongside Rodwell-Grant for the first time, worked tirelessly throughout the game but as time went on, his main efforts had to be in defence as Kidderminster turned the screw.

A number of blocks, including one by their own player, kept Kidderminster at bay and Dan Atherton relatively inactive, until on the half-hour mark, Peter Clarke blocked a shot from Kouhyar that fell kindly for top scorer Amari Morgan-Smith to round the ‘keeper and score, only to be denied by the offside flag.

Their best chance came with virtually the last kick of the first half, Ryley Reynolds somehow steering wide from eight yards out.

Left wing-back Reece Devine tormented the Yellows at the start of the second half and only a superb body on the line block by Amis stopped Reynolds from opening the scoring four minutes in.

A charging Devine was halted by Jay Harris on the left touchline and from the subsequent free-kick, Kouhyar’s delivery was nodded home by McNally.

Kidderminster laid siege at the Yellows goal, and they had at least three efforts cleared off the line.

The second goal came when Devine’s cross was held up by the excellent Ashley Hemmings in the box, he found Joe Foulkes and his pull-back was fired home from eight yards out by Kouhyar.

It was men against boys in the second half and Warrington’s frustrations were summed up best when McDonald was sent off for a needless trip on McNally, moments after he had been booked for dissent.

The Yellows are back in action on Tuesday night at home to Stockport County in the Cheshire Senior Cup.
