Preview: Warrington Town vs Chorley

Warrington Town welcome Chorley to Cantilever Park on Saturday, in the first of successive National League North games on home soil. 

The Yellows will look to do the double over the Magpies following a 1-0 win at Victory Park back in August – Connor Woods’ drilled first half finish all that separated the two sides on that day.

It promises to be a tricky game for the Yellows, with Saturday’s visitors currently three points ahead in the league table and occupying a play-off berth.

Team news

There are no fresh injury concerns for the Yellows, with Josh Amis (ankle) the only expected absentee.

A number of Town’s first team regulars are expected to return having sat out the club’s Cheshire Senior Cup defeat at Cheadle Town in midweek, with the experienced Jay Harris and Andre Wisdom pushing to start after coming off the bench in their previous league outing.

One player who won’t feature is long-serving defender Mitch Duggan, who completed a move to Vauxhall Motors on Thursday.

Dec Walker preview

Warrington Town defender Dec Walker believes the never-say-die attitude within the squad will take them far in the National League North, as they go in search of a third successive league win on Saturday.

The Yellows went back-to-back on the road last week, thrashing Buxton 6-0 on the Tuesday before backing up their win at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium with a hard-fought 2-1 win in the north-east at Blyth Spartans.

Saturday sees them return home to Cantilever Park for the first time since Dan Atherton rescued a sensational 2-2 draw against Alfreton Town with his last-gasp header from a Walker free-kick.

“It’s always hard going anywhere in this league, like we found out at a few places,” he said.

“I don’t know how many times we’ve rallied late in games this year and last. We fight until the end and fight for each other, and little things like that don’t happen overnight.

“The gaffer has built a tight-knit squad where everyone wants to play for the lads around them, and it’s exciting to see how far that never-say-die attitude can take us.”
