Preview: Warrington Town vs Ashton United

Warrington Town will end a run of four consecutive home games by hosting Ashton United at the Cal.Delivery Stadium in the Northern Premier League this evening.

The Yellows extended their winning streak to three games in all competitions following Saturday's 3-2 victory over Lancaster City.

After picking up their first back-to-back league wins since January 2024, Paul Carden's side will be keen to maintain their momentum with another tough clash, this time against Ashton United.

The two sides last met in April 2023, with goals from Luke Duffy (2) and Josh Amis sealing a 3-0 victory as the Yellows went on to secure promotion into the National League North.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Forward Max Thompson, who joined the club on dual-registration from Chorley in September, could make his return to the side ahead of tonight's clash against Ashton United.

The youngster picked up an injury following his debut in the 0-0 draw against Rushall Olympic.

There were no fresh injury concerns for Paul Carden from Saturday's victory against Lancaster City.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden is hoping to utilise his side's excellent home league form as they welcome a tough Ashton United side to WA4 this evening.

The Yellows are yet to be bested at the Cal.Delivery Stadium in the Northern Premier League this season, and it's a stat that his players are keen to uphold, as they go in search of a fourth consecutive victory, which would see them move up to 16th.

"Chris Doyle came in after the game and said we have to make this place a fortress – no one comes here and gets an easy ride," Carden said.

"We have to make this the place where we win. That’s the way it’s got to be.

"When you’ve got that type of attitude and mindset in the dressing room, it’s infectious and that gives people confidence.

"This team still hasn’t been together for very long. We’ve got to forge that familiarity, but we’re making progress with it without getting carried away.

"We’ve got to take belief and confidence from the last week and use it moving forward to maintain results."
