Mikey O'Neill previews pivotal 'six-pointer' against Radcliffe

The Warrington Town squad is ready to tackle their remaining league fixtures with confidence and belief as the fight for survival continues, says midfielder Mikey O'Neill.

The Yellows' next two fixtures against fellow strugglers Radcliffe and Oxford City have been dubbed relegation six-pointers, with Paul Carden's side currently five points from safety having played two games more than fifth-bottom Oxford.

With the need for wins growing by the week, Town come into Saturday's game hoping to build on a string of much-improved performances, including a 2-0 victory over Rushall Olympic in their last home outing.

"They’re two six-pointers which, if we were to win, would put us in a much better place, so we all know what we need to do and how important they are," O'Neill said ahead of Saturday's game.

"We’ve got belief that we can do it. Against Chester on Tuesday night, we felt coming in at half-time that the game was there for us, and we had real confidence after how we’d played in the first half.

"Then Matty McDonald had a big chance in the second half, and if that went in, the result could’ve been a lot different.

"It wasn’t to be in the end, but it should give us confidence going into these games coming up after going toe-to-toe, especially in the first half, with one of the top sides in the division."

O'Neill has proven influential since making his return to the Yellows starting XI, scoring the opener in the recent 2-0 victory over Rushall before assisting Aaron James' goal in midweek, the midfielder's floated corner headed home expertly by the on-loan Wrexham man.

Still, he is hoping to continue raising his game between now and the season's end and has called on the rest of the squad to contribute as much as possible to help the club maintain it's Step 2 status.

He added: "It’s nice to be given the chance to try and add something to the team, and I’ve obviously come in and got a goal on Saturday and an assist against Chester, which is good.

"I want to contribute even more because we know what it’s going to take to stay up. We’ve all got to start bringing the best version of ourselves and helping each other as much as possible from now until the final kick of the season."
