Josh Miles reflects on adapting to life at the Yellows

Warrington Town winger Josh Miles says there is extra determination within the squad ahead of Saturday’s clash with Needham Market, following the club’s first home defeat of the season on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Yellows endured mixed fortunes over the bank holiday weekend at the Cal.Delivery Stadium, with an impressive 2-1 win over former National League side Kidderminster Harriers followed up by a disappointing late defeat to Farsley Celtic less than 48 hours later.

Miles was a substitute in both games, having started each of the opening three in the National League North this season.

Mark Beesley’s side round off the first month of the season with another home game, this time against Needham Market, who prop up the table after five games.

The Marketmen have only picked up one point from their opening five games, scoring two goals in the process.

After their defeat last time out, this Saturday presents the perfect opportunity for the Yellows to bounce back in front of the club’s home supporters, something Miles is acutely aware of.

“Monday’s defeat was a really tough one to take, especially after being on such a high after beating Kidderminster on Saturday,” he said.

“To then come out and get beat at home was a blow, but the focus now for all the lads is Needham Market on Saturday.”

Given the nature of his three-month loan, the 17-year-old knows that every performance is crucial for him as he continues to adapt to the Yellows’ way of playing.

He has yet to score a competitive goal for the club but did bag an eight-minute hat-trick in pre-season against Oldham, underlining his potential in front of goal.

“With my loan being three months, there’s not much time to not perform,” the teenager admitted.

“I don’t really think I’ve been at my best so far, and I’ve had a good few chances to score which I’ve missed.

“What I want to get out of my time here is to perform well, and as often as possible, to help the team, and hopefully get myself a good few goals.

“Whenever you go somewhere new, it’s quite hard to adjust to exactly what the manager wants from you, whether it be in or out of possession. I’m probably still learning now, but whenever I’m unsure I’ll ask Bees and we’ll speak about it.”
