Warrington Town forward Joe Rodwell-Grant has urged his team-mates to show pride for the shirt as they look to say farewell to the National League North on a positive note.
Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Curzon Ashton signalled the end of the Yellows’ time at Step 2, relegation bringing to an end a two-season stay in the division.
With four games remaining, the challenge now becomes giving the supporters cause for optimism heading into the summer - something which Rodwell-Grant insists must start on Saturday at home to Brackley Town.
He said: “After the Curzon game, Cards told us that we needed to all stick together.
“All the players were thinking that too, and from our point of view, we're playing for our pride now. We've got to go out there and try our best, like we have been doing all season.
“Results haven't been going our way, and that's one of the reasons why we're in this position, but none of us are going to give up trying to do the right things.
“We’ll give everything we can to win games of football. It's not been the best of seasons, but we can only keep trying.”
With just six league wins all season, it has been a difficult period for the Yellows to navigate, under the guidance of Mark Beesley and more recently Paul Carden.
A major summer rebuild is expected at the Cal.Delivery Stadium, and Rodwell-Grant has paid tribute to the supporters for their unwavering commitment to the cause, both home and away.
The 22-year-old added: “The fans are always coming in their numbers, and even when times have been tough this season, they've still turned out and supported the lads.
“I want to thank them for that personally, because we do appreciate it.
“We need to get through these next few games and play for the shirt, play for the fans. Going into the summer, hopefully it gives them something to be optimistic about as we look to try and bounce back.”
