Warrington Town manager Paul Carden says he is delighted that David Morgan has joined the club, for reasons both on and off the pitch.
The 31-year-old Northern Irishman was announced as one of the club’s new summer signings at the recent Summer Social event, alongside goalkeeper Liam Isherwood and left-back Matty Waters.
He ended last season as caretaker manager at Southport, who he played for in two spells, either side of a stint at Accrington Stanley.
As well as becoming a key part of the playing squad, Morgan will form part of Carden’s back-room staff as assistant, working alongside Craig Noone, Mark Canning and physio Allie O’Neill.
Carden said: “We were talking to Morgs for quite a while. We spoke to Jim Bentley when he was still at Southport last season about taking him on loan and it was never really close, and then he ended up as caretaker, so we were never going to get him at that point.
“But we’re delighted to have him in. He’s a player who will set standards, not only in the way he conducts himself and his professionalism, but also in training as well, he demands high standards.
“With him coming on the staff as well, along with Craig, myself and Mark, I think it gives us a good staff, a good balance. He’s just done his A license as well, so he knows what’s needed.
“He had the experience last season with Southport, so he knows what it’s like on the other side, but the primary thing for us is that he plays and he gives us, as a staff, his input. One thing as well is that he knows players, which is invaluable.”
