Earlier this week, the Enjoy Football/Warrington Town Walking Football group hosted players from Altrincham FC in the Community at the UNIS Compliance Stadium in a much anticipated and long-awaited game.
This was the first outing for the Yellows as a group, against an experienced in-competition Altrincham side.
Despite the grey and very damp conditions, the home team took advantage of the familiar surroundings and very quickly went two goals ahead.
As the Warrington squad was larger (in number) than their opponents, rolling substitutions had to be made more frequently and this appeared to cause a bit of disruption to the style of play. As a result, Altrincham score two very quick goals as they got into their stride.

Their big match experience showed, and by half time the home team were 3-2 down.
The second half went very much the way as the latter stages of the first half, with Alty scoring another couple quickly. But at 5-2, the team in yellow had plenty of chances, making the Reds goalkeeper work extremely hard to keep his side in the lead.
One more goal each was shared, until the last kick of the game saw Altrincham run out 7-3 winners.
The Enjoy Football/Warrington Town team were not outplayed in the game by any shot, and on another day with some more game experience under their belt, this could have had a different outcome.
The most important thing about this game was that it was played in a great spirit befitting of the community aspect that both clubs are trying to achieve for the game.
Geoff Hall, Altrincham captain, said: “I just want to say, on behalf of all the Alty lads this morning, how much everyone enjoyed the game and the hospitality.

“Nothing to do with the result but everything to do with the attitude, spirit & friendliness of everyone connected to Warrington Town Walking Football.”
Dave Smith, Enjoy Football organiser and founder, said: “This was a great game to watch and officiate with two very good, closely-matched teams.
“Despite the result, it was played in the way it should be. Congrats to Altrincham for the win, and we hope to meet them again soon.
