Warrington Town Women’s team is here!

Ahead of the Women’s World Cup final on Sunday, Warrington Town are proud to welcome on board its new women’s team.

Following discussions over the off-season, the Warrington Wolves Women’s FC team (previously known as Warrington Wolverines) are to re-brand as Warrington Town Women and become part of the football club.

They will continue to play their home games at Tetley Walker Recreation Ground for the 2023/24 season, while also making use of the 3G pitches at Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, where the reserves will play their home games.

Helen Dobson, chairperson and captain of the women’s team, said: “We are really excited to be joining Warrington Town FC as the official Warrington Town Women’s team.

“Warrington Town made history last season by gaining promotion to the National League North, putting Warrington on the map of football and proving it is more than just a rugby town.

“Alongside the rapid growth of the Women’s game, now seems the perfect time for our two clubs to come together and raise the profile of football in Warrington even further.

“It is a new era for our club on the 10-year anniversary since we were first established. This move makes sense for us as a club, taking the next step towards achieving our long-term goals and ambitions which include the growth of women’s football in Warrington and at youth level.

“We’d like to thank Toby Macormac and the team for providing us with this wonderful opportunity and we look forward to playing under the Warrington Town brand.

“We would also like to thank the Warrington Wolves for the last 2 years, allowing us to proudly play under their Charitable Foundation, and for the support they have shown towards women’s football in Warrington.”

The women’s club has been established for 10 years and operates a first team and a development team, providing the best level of women’s football in the town. The women’s first team currently play in the North West Women’s Regional Football League Division One (South), the sixth tier of the women’s football pyramid.

Below the Women’s Super League there is the Women’s Championship and then the third tier National League North and National League South Premier divisions. Beneath them are four regional first divisions (North, Midlands, South West, East) and then at the fifth tier is the North West Premier Division, one of eight divisions at that level.

For the 2023/24 season, the North West Division One South division has 12 teams, including the Yellows, Altrincham, Chester, Northwich and Runcorn Linnets. The Premier Division includes the likes of Blackpool, Bury, Crewe, Salford, Tranmere and Wigan.

Warrington Town chairman Toby Macormac added: “The women’s game has seen a meteoric rise in recent years, and that looks set to continue with England taking on Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday which will likely inspire more girls to take up the sport.

“We have seen significant interest from young girls teams in the town through our mascot packages and our holiday camps, and with the increased participation in playing, we can now create a pathway for them to play and represent their town.

“From our initial meetings, it was clear a lot of hard work and passion has gone into developing the women’s team over the years, and that fits perfectly within our ethos.

“We are working tirelessly behind the scenes to develop and grow the club, and to add a women’s section on top of the announcements earlier in the summer of our new youth teams is another part of that.”

Warrington Town Women would like to thank its partners and sponsors for their continued support: 1010 Games, Akira Nails & Beauty, Aston Berkeley, Core Social, Dynamic Sports Coaching, GT Radial, Millsdale Pharm, NTW Plastering, Renewables Electech Limited, Step Up Security Services, Travel Counsellors Heather Lee, Watsons Solicitors.
