Max Thompson scored again for Warrington Town but they were forced to settle for a point away at Workington.
The Yellows found the going tough on a heavy pitch, but took the lead early in the second half when Thompson headed his fourth goal in three matches off a Jay Harris cross.
Bottom of the table Workington levelled things up eight minutes later on 56 minutes when Dav Symington drilled a shot through bodies from the edge of the box that found the bottom corner.
There were few chances on a pitch that wasn’t conducive to flowing football and creativity.
A measured cross by Reds captain Steven Rigg found Hayden Atkinson arriving late at the back post, though he placed his header wide.
The only real save of the first half came on 19 minutes, when Liam Isherwood got down well to save smartly at his near post to deny Charlie Barnes, whose driven shot took a deflection off Evan Gumbs.
Reece Daly hit a free-kick wide and then saw a first time shot blocked six yards out from Harris’ pull-back.
Kai Nugent had two chances at the end of the half for the Reds, his first shot from the edge well blocked by Josh Vela, and his shot from the rebound was caught comfortably by Isherwood.
Harris led a sharp start to the second half by the visitors, and there were calls for a penalty when Thompson was brought down by Tyler Magloire that were waved away.
Thompson had the last laugh a minute or two later though, when he held up the ball well to eventually find Harris, and his cross was perfect for Thompson to head in to the bottom corner.
Workington rolled their sleeves up and fired a warning when Isherwood made a good stop at his near post to deny Tom Stephenson from Symington’s ball in.
From the resulting period of pressure, the Yellows couldn’t clear a corner and Magloire found Symington to fire a diagonal shot that found the bottom corner.
That led to a spell of control from the hosts without creating anything clear cut, until the introduction of Elliot Morris on 73 and a slight tweak to the system gave the Yellows a bit of momentum.
Niall Watson went on a mazy run and was brought down in the box but again the referee waved away the penalty claims.
That really was the closest the Yellows came, while at the other end, Workington nearly pinched it when Dan Hopper’s cross went all the way through to Josh Galloway and he hit a rising shot off the top of the crossbar.
The Yellows now have back-to-back home games against Morpeth and Gainsborough on the next two Saturdays.
