Report: Warrington Town 0-1 Curzon Ashton

Warrington Town’s barren spell in front of goal continued as they were beaten 1-0 at home by National League North leaders Curzon Ashton.

Devon Matthews’ header from Craig Mahon’s first half corner was enough to settle a game in which there were few chances.

The returning Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, the Yellows’ play-off final winning hero of 2023 and last season’s top scorer, came closest to a second goal after the break, forcing a fin e save from Dan Atherton, who was otherwise untroubled.

His opposite number Bobby Jones was similarly redundant until the final 10 minutes, when he had to beat away a rasping drive from Connor Woods, and then made routine stops from distance to deny Jay Harris and Mikey O’Neill.

At times, Curzon demonstrated why they are top of the table with a controlled and balanced display, as the Yellows again struggled to find any cutting edge in the final third, without particularly looking too troubled at the back.

They go in search of a goal and victory away at Peterborough Sports on Saturday.
