Preview: Warrington Town vs Stockton Town

Warrington Town are back on home soil this Saturday as they welcome Stockton Town to the Cal.Delivery Stadium in the Northern Premier League.

The Yellows' mid-week fixture away at Bamber Bridge was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, so they will be aiming to respond to their 8-0 defeat against Hebburn Town when the Anchors visit WA4 this weekend.

It will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides, and Stockton, who finished last season as play-off semi-finalists, have made a strong start to their 2025/26 campaign, currently sitting in 5th place after six wins and three draws from 14 games.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Midfielder Matty Tweedley is expected to return to the matchday squad, having been sidelined since the 2-1 defeat to Stocksbridge Park Steels nearly a month ago.

Saturday may come too soon for Elliot Morris, who has returned to training following a lengthy injury lay-off which has kept him out since February.

Defender Troy Bourne is likely to miss out with a hamstring injury, while Josh Amis, Scott Butler, David Morgan and Kallan Murphy remain longer-term absentees.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden has tasked his side to ensure that last weekend's 8-0 scoreline against Hebburn Town was simply a blip as they look to maintain their excellent home form with a difficult clash against Stockton Town.

The Yellows missed out on the chance to respond immediately after their trip to Bamber Bridge on Tuesday was postponed.

Despite this, Carden states that his side has utilised the time well in training, and is expecting his side to respond to last Saturday.

"I felt like I’d been banged over the head," Carden said.

"Sometimes in a game, something can happen to trigger something else, and you think, how has that happened?

"I felt like that for 95 minutes last weekend. I’ve never been involved in a game like it as a player, a coach or a manager.

"We have to draw a line under it and 100 per cent make sure nothing even close to that ever happens to us again.

"With the players we had on the pitch at the time, it should never have come to that, but it did. But the lads have responded in training.

"The game being off on Tuesday was disappointing because I felt we were up for it, but we adjusted and trained.

"It was a sharp training session. We’ve had another on Thursday where we’ve worked on other things and done our analysis like we usually do, so we should be ready.

"We’ve certainly got to react in a positive manner in our performance and application, and I’m sure we will."
