Preview: Warrington Town vs Southport

Warrington Town end their 14-year hiatus from the Liverpool Senior Cup on Tuesday night when Southport visit the Cal.Delivery Stadium.

After a difficult run in the league, Paul Carden's men will be hoping the cup can be a welcome distraction as they look to bounce back from Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Alfreton Town.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

A much-changed XI is expected on Tuesday night, although several members of the first team squad are still likely to feature.

One confirmed absentee is left-back Andy White, who is set for a spell on the sidelines after being forced off with an ankle injury on Saturday.

Some of the club's youth players could also come into Carden's selection plans as he looks to navigate the squad through a busy November which features a total of nine games in league and cup.

Vini Desouza and Leon Johnson from the Under 21s, and James McSweeney from the Under 18s are all set to play, while a new signing could also come into the mix.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden is keen to see his side rediscover their winning formula on Tuesday night.

The midweek clash with Southport marks the start of successive games against the Sandgrounders, with the Yellows making the trip to Haig Avenue in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

"Tuesday will be an opportunity for some lads to get some important game time, some to maintain their game time and a few of the younger lads to be involved as well," Carden said ahead of the game.

"It doesn't matter what competition we're playing in, you want to win.

"We need to get into a habit and mindset where we want to attack and we want to score goals.

"We need to tweak things a little bit, to try and give us a platform where we can score goals without being wide open."
