Preview: Warrington Town vs South Shields

Warrington Town face a familiar foe this Saturday as they welcome South Shields to the Cal.Delivery Stadium in the National League North.

Paul Carden's men come into the fixture on the back of last weekend's thrilling comeback away at Darlington, where they rescued a late point in a 2-2 draw at Blackwell Meadows.

This weekend, South Shields will visit WA4 for the sixth time in search of an important three points which would see them leapfrog the Yellows in the table from their current position of 17th.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Warrington Town defender Evan Gumbs will not feature in tomorrow's clash against South Shields after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season in the draw against Darlington.

In his stead, Noah Halford, who joined on loan from Bolton last Saturday, could make his debut for Warrington Town.

Mikey O'Neill preview

Warrington Town midfielder Mikey O'Neill is relishing life since Paul Carden's return to the club.

The 21-year-old played a key part in the comeback at Darlington last weekend, providing an assist for Josh Amis’ equaliser, and was rightfully the subject of praise from the Warrington Town boss, who hailed his performance post-match as being of “a different class”.

Even though O’Neill has started just one of the five games since Carden’s return to the dugout, he is enjoying playing under the new manager and is keen to cement a place in his thoughts moving forward.

“Cards said to just go on and show what I can do, help change the game and show why I should be playing,” he said of the message given to him at half-time on Saturday.

“I feel he recognises the talent I have, and I appreciate the comments after the match as it fills me with more confidence.

“I am determined to be in a position where I am starting games and doing what I need to do for the team, and that is working hard.”
