Preview: Warrington Town vs Scunthorpe United

Warrington Town will be looking to return to winning ways this Saturday as they welcome Scunthorpe United to Cantilever Park in the National League North.

The Yellows have suffered two defeats in as many games at home, losing out to local rivals Southport before a last-minute goal saw Gloucester run out 2-1 winners last Saturday.

Ex-Football League side Scunthorpe United edged out Mark Beesley’s men 1-0 at Glanford Park in November, and they will be aiming to close in on league leaders Tamworth, who currently sit 13 points above them.

Left-back Andy White and forward Matt Grivosti will be monitored ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Scunthorpe after missing the previous couple of fixtures due to ankle and knee injuries respectively.

Captain Josh Amis, who suffered a knock to his knee in last weekend’s defeat to Gloucester City, is a doubt.

Warrington Town defender Peter Clarke has backed the squad to respond quickly to last weekend’s defeat at home to Gloucester City as they look to end their debut season in the National League North on a positive note.

After recent setbacks on home soil, the Yellows will have a chance to bounce back this Saturday against one of the division’s heavyweight teams in ex-Football League side Scunthorpe.

Ahead of that match, Clarke was quick to emphasise the need to look at the bigger picture of what has been accomplished over recent months.

“It’s natural that we are going to lose games during the course of a season,” Clarke said of recent form.

“Not many sides go a whole campaign without losing a game, and I think we’ve proved so far that we respond well when faced with adversity.

“No matter who the opposition is, we want to go out there and give it our best. When players do that, it gives the team the best opportunity to win the game.

“Scunthorpe have been a big player in the Football League in years gone by, and are looked upon as one of the bigger teams in the division.”
