Preview: Warrington Town vs Hereford

Warrington Town will look to bounce back from Saturday's defeat when they welcome Hereford to the Cal.Delivery Stadium this evening in the National League North.

Paul Carden's homecoming ended in a 2-0 loss against Oxford City, as the Yellows slipped down to 18th place.

A quick turnaround ensues as his side faces another tough task when high-flying Hereford visits WA4 in their bid to leapfrog over Scunthorpe United at the top of the table.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Defenders Ollie Southern and Peter Clarke will be pushing for a spot in the starting lineups this evening, with the pair featuring as second-half substitutes at the weekend after recovering from their respective injuries.

Evan Gumbs will go into contention to make his 150th career appearance for the Yellows in the clash against Hereford.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden has urged his side to rally around each other as they look to right their wrongs from the weekend.

With little time to reflect on the 2-0 defeat against Oxford City, the Yellows will gear up for the arrival of Hereford, who currently sit second in the National League North table and are yet to be bested on the road this season.

Despite this, Carden believes that the swift turnaround presents his side with an opportunity to cause an upset on home soil.

"We’re playing against a strong side who had a great result on Saturday, so they’re second in the league now," Carden said.

"They’re in good form and know how to win away from home.

"But we’ve just got to be much better than we were on Saturday, we’ve got to play with more belief.

"The only way you turn it around is by sticking together, working as hard as you can and playing to your strengths - that’s how it’s got to be on Tuesday.

"We can go on about tactics, formations and things like that, but the biggest thing is our pride and showing what we’re made of.

"Don’t be that player letting your team down and if everybody is doing that, the collective will be there and we’ll win more than we won’t."

Peter Clarke preview

Warrington Town centre-back Peter Clarke believes his side need to bring the intensity on Tuesday night as they prepare for a tough encounter against high-flying Hereford.

The Yellows will be looking to bounce back immediately following a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Oxford City on Saturday.

The 42-year-old expressed his disappointment at the defeat, and insists the team need to keep working hard to ensure the Cal.Delivery Stadium is a tougher place for visiting teams to come to.

“The immediate reaction to Saturday is disappointment and frustration,” he said.

“We didn’t play with enough intensity out of possession until they were ahead, and to come back from two down is a very difficult task.

“We need to make sure we start games well going forward, and make sure we’re difficult to play against so teams dread having to play us on our own pitch.”

“If we have a group of players who are working really hard, then we give ourselves good opportunities to succeed,” he added.

“There’s no secret formula to it. Hard work is the key, and we’ve got to make sure we are working collectively to make ourselves hard to play against.

“Doing the unpretty things well helps to build confidence off the ball, and that will give individuals confidence to express themselves more in possession.”
