Preview: Warrington Town vs FC United of Manchester

Warrington Town welcome FC United of Manchester to the Cal.Delivery Stadium in the Northern Premier League this evening.

The Yellows will be keen to maintain their excellent run of form on home soil following their 2-0 victory over Stockton Town at the weekend, their fifth consecutive win at the Cal.Delivery Stadium.

Tonight, they welcome back some familiar faces as Mark Beesley returns to WA4 for the first time since his departure from the club in September 2024 with FC United of Manchester.

It will be the first meeting with the Reds since January 2023, when Bohan Dixon fired from the penalty spot to secure a point in a 1-1 draw at Broadhurst Park.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Midfielder Matty Tweedley returned to the squad on Saturday for the first time since October, but was an unused substitute in the win over Stockton Town.

There were no fresh injury concerns for Paul Carden following the weekend's result.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden insists his side must continue to maintain their home form if they are to continue to push further up the league table.

The Yellows bounced back from a disappointing result away at Hebburn Town with a 2-0 victory against one of the division's promotion hopefuls in Stockton Town on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Chris Doyle and Niall Watson.

The result extended their home winning run to five in all competitions, but tonight, that record is under jeopardy once more as Mark Beesley's high-flying FC United of Manchester visit the Cal.Delivery Stadium.

Beesley will be returning to the club for the first time since his departure in September 2024, and Carden admits it will be a 'strange feeling' coming up against someone who has been alongside him on the pitch and in the dugout for years.

"If we're to start climbing the table, first and foremost, we need to make our home ground the most difficult place to visit in the division," Carden said.

"We need to continue playing in the right way at home, then take that same mentality into our away games.

"FC United have been flying, and Mark Beesley was named Manager of the Month. I'm sure he'll want to get one over on us, but he knows that we will be aiming to do the same.

"If we commit to the game in the same manner as Saturday, they'll be in for a tough game.

"I think that big matches bring the best out of our players - many have played in matches of real importance before, and Tuesday will be exactly that.

"It'll be a strange feeling coming up against Bees, who remains a very good friend of mine. We still speak three, four, five times a week, and I'm glad to see him doing well.

"When I left the club back in 2021, I sat down with Toby, the chairman, and told him that he already had a good person in Bees who knew the club inside out and could have the baton passed onto him.

"He did brilliantly during his time here, and the same again for FC United. They have a really balanced squad, and he's got them organised and winning games.

"We've been really close since I was 20 and he was 18 years of age, but come Tuesday, the niceties will stop for 90 minutes!

"Saying that, I hope he gets the reception he deserves from our supporters for leading this club to its highest-ever level of football.

"He deserves that recognition not just for what he did as manager, but for what he did with me before getting the chance to take charge."
