Mark Beesley: Second half fightback was for the fans

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley dedicated Saturday’s come-from-behind victory against Rushall Olympic to the fans in attendance.

Despite falling behind to a third-minute Daniel Waldron opener, over 1,100 fans watched the Yellows complete a second-half turnaround to pick up all three points.

Isaac Buckley-Ricketts kept his cool to equalise early in the second half, before the hosts were thwarted by both the woodwork and goalkeeper Jacob Weaver as they pressed for a winner.

It looked like the points would be shared, until Jordan Buckley latched onto a long ball downfield from Dan Atherton before rifling home the winner in the third minute of stoppage time.

“The crowd have been brilliant all season, and I heard that there were over 1,100 here today,” Beesley said post-match.

“To score a winner like that is brilliant for them. I’m made up because the last performance here wasn’t our best, and we dusted ourselves down, won at Gloucester and won again today.

“We deserved it, and I’m sure that anyone in the ground would say the same. In the second half especially, we created chance after chance and I’m made up that we got a home win.

“I was pleased with how we came out in the second half.

“We had a right go, penned them back and had chance after chance. Sometimes you think, ‘you know what, you can’t do any more than you’re doing – we’re doing as well as we can’.

“There wasn’t that ruthless, clinical bit at the end, but we created loads [of chances]. Then Jordan came on at the end to score the winner, and it was brilliant for us.”

Saturday’s win saw the Yellows climb to eighth in the division, and it was also the first time the club have come from behind to win this season.

“That’s another little tick for us,” Beesley admitted.

“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to keep conceding goals, and let’s be honest – it was a dubious penalty at best.

“Hopefully we’ll get one of these soon, and it evens itself out.

“It’s great to come back and win at home.”
