Mark Beesley reacts to King’s Lynn Town draw

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley was pleased with his side’s performance after coming away with a point away at King’s Lynn Town.

Both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock in a relatively open first half, but chances were few and far between in the following 45 minutes, and the Yellows held on to earn a point in their first goalless draw of the season.

Town claimed a 1-0 victory against the Linnets in the reverse fixture at the UNIS Compliance Stadium back in September and after a long journey down to Norfolk, Beesley was satisfied with how his team performed especially with several key absences against a full-time opposition.

“I think it was a good point. With the numbers that we’ve got, suspensions, bumps and bruises to Jay [Harris] who is playing his first full game and Clarkey [Peter Clarke] who’s probably not fit, to come here and get a 0-0 is a good result for us.

“[King’s Lynn Town] are a good team – they’re full-time so to take four points off of them is a success for us this season.

“I think for the first 15-20 minutes, King’s Lynn were lively. We also had some really good chances and on another day, we tap them in.

“In the second half, the game stalemated – I think that they didn’t want to lose and neither did we so it petered out to a 0-0.

“For us to come all the way down here and get a draw, we’ve got to be pleased with that.”

Despite the lack of goals in the game, Beesley was delighted with how his team set out their stall defensively to earn back-to-back clean sheets in the league for the first time since August.

The Warrington Town boss admitted that had this fixture come earlier in the season, his side would have conceded one or two goals, but now insists that they must continue to build upon it if they are to progress in the National League North.

“It was a battling performance from us but a good battling performance. Probably ten games ago, then we lose that game 1-0 or 2-0.

“Clean sheets are something that we’ve not had this season – we’ve defended well and gave away silly goals so to get back-to-back clean sheets is important because they guarantee you at least a point on the board.

“In this league, we’ve been so tight and tough, so keeping a clean sheet gives us an important point which is something that we’ve spoken about a lot, so we need to try and keep this going.”
