Mark Beesley pleased with Boxing Day display

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley says his squad need to take the positives out of their Boxing Day draw with Marine. 

The Yellows managed 11 shots on target against the side with the best defensive record in the Northern Premier League, but despite creating a number of good openings, they couldn’t find a way past visiting keeper Bayleigh Passant. 

Stefan Mols came closest, only to see his first half penalty clawed away by Passant. 

Speaking post-match, Beesley was keen to emphasise the pleasing aspects of their festive display.

“On the whole, I thought we played really well,” he said. “They’re fourth in the league, and they aren’t there by fluke. 

“To limit them to a 15-minute spell is a compliment to us. 

“You miss penalties, you miss sitters and sometimes it’s not your day, but we’ve got to look at the positive side. 

“We had 11 shots on target, and if we keep doing that, things will turn for us.”

Isaac Buckley-Ricketts led the line against Marine, with last season’s top scorer Jordan Buckley making a second half cameo as he continues to work his way back to full fitness. 

And with Josh Amis soon to be back from suspension, Beesley is happy with the options at his disposal. 

“He [Isaac Buckley-Ricketts] started the season so well and then had that injury which knocked him back.

“It’s taken him a while to get back, but he’s looking sharper now.

“Jordan got 30 minutes today and Mossy will be back too, and all of a sudden we’ll have options at that end of the pitch. That’s all that counts really.”

The Yellows boss also singled out midfielder Bohan Dixon for his impressive performance, having deployed him in a freer midfield role after the half-time break. 

“He’s playing so well, and he just needs to get that goal to get the monkey off his back,” Beesley admitted.

“It’s probably affected him a little bit, but he just needs to keep going. He was excellent again today.”
