Mark Beesley: FC United draw shows character and belief

Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley says Saturday’s 1-1 draw at FC United of Manchester demonstrated lots of pleasing qualities within his squad.

For the fourth successive away game, the Yellows were forced to come from behind to take something from the contest.

On 74 minutes, Bohan Dixon equalised from the penalty spot after Dontai Gabidon’s first half opener. 

The result stretches Town’s unbeaten run to nine matches in all competitions after a difficult period of fixtures – something Beesley was quick to emphasise post-match.

“We keep coming from behind and picking up points, and it’s a sign of a really good squad and shows the character and belief they’ve got,” he said.

“We’ve got to start games better, because at some point we can’t keep doing that.

“If you’d had said to me, ‘you’ve got Hyde, FC United and Rylands away and you’ll be unbeaten’, we’d take that. 

“Of course, you want to win every game, but five points from them is a good outcome.”

On the overall performance of his side, Beesley added: “I thought we started well, but the injury to their lad knocked us a bit – I hope he’s okay.

“They got a foothold in the game and got on top of us, and from their point of view they’ll probably be disappointed that it was only 1-0 at half-time. 

“We had to change one or two things, and in the second half we were much better.

“Our shape was better out of possession, and it enabled us to get forward more and have good possession higher up the pitch.”

The Yellows are next in action at home to Stafford Rangers on Saturday 4 February.
