Luke Duffy: We can’t take any game lightly

Warrington Town forward Luke Duffy says the club can’t let standards slip if they want to challenge for promotion this season.

The Yellows currently sit on the fringes of the play-off places heading into the Christmas period. 

Despite their struggles for consistency at times during the 2022/23 season, Duffy believes the nature of the league means it doesn’t take a lot for a club to develop into serious promotion contenders. 

“The first half of the season has been good on the whole,” he said. “We’ve got a great group of lads who play for each other, and we try to play the right way.

“If you win a couple of games on the spin you’re right up there. It’s important that we keep putting points on the board. 

“This league is too competitive to take lightly.”

Duffy has been working his way back for fitness in recent weeks, having struggled with a slight injury.

He hasn’t started since the club’s 1-0 victory at Lancaster City in mid-October, but did feature as a substitute in each of the last four matches in league and cup.

The talented forward admits he is always striving to up his game as he attempts to re-establish a place in the starting XI moving forward.

“It’s just about getting match fit again, so it’s good to get minutes in the legs,” he added.

“The squad is great and everyone is pushing to start. We have players coming back from injuries and players back from suspension, so everyone’s pretty much available for the first time all season.

“I have scored more goals already than I did the whole of last season, and that’s what I needed to add to my game.

“I feel like I am always learning and improving as a player, so I just need to keep working hard and helping us out as much as I can.”
