Dave Raven: We need to be more clinical

Warrington Town must become more efficient at converting chances after their 2023 got off to a stuttering start at Nantwich Town, admits assistant manager Dave Raven.

The Yellows fell behind inside just nine seconds at the Weaver Stadium as the Dabbers hit the front through Mo Malumo.

However, Town responded before half-time when Andy White lashed home his first goal for the club after good work from Isaac Buckley-Ricketts.

And one point could have easily become three, only for the returning Josh Amis to see his close range finish ruled out for offside.

Speaking post-match, Raven said: “What we can’t do is start how we did. It gives teams a leg-up and they are tough to break down anyway. 

“Anyone is tough to break down when they’ve got something to hold onto. Having said that, we’ve created chance after chance but we’ve got to be converting them.

“Sooner or later, that will have to turn and the law of averages says so.

“We’ve got to be on it from minute one in every single game, it doesn’t matter who you’re playing against.

“Having said that, we’ve dominated 85 minutes. It’s really frustrating, and you scratch your head thinking what else you can work on, but that’s what we’ll be looking at.”

Despite enduring a third successive draw in the league, Raven believes the tide will turn for the Yellows, who now sit ninth in the Northern Premier League table.  

“It’s January, there are four months left and things are very tight,” he added.

“You only need a run of 10 games to get somewhere decent, so it’s not all doom and gloom. 

“It’s very tight, and the team that wins the league is going to be the one with belief, that keeps people fit and gets that bit of luck. We’re hoping things turn for us soon.”
