Warrington Town are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Craig Carney for the 2020-21 season.
The 27-year-old arrives at Cantilever Park having spent the last campaign with Northern Premier League Premier Division rivals FC United of Manchester.
Having started his career at Southport, Carney has also starred for Marine as well as enjoying spells at Northwich Victoria, Lancaster City, Squires Gate, Bamber Bridge and Kendal Town.
Manager Paul Carden said: “He wants to run beyond forwards and we probably haven’t really had that type of midfielder in a long time, if ever.
“Craig will go beyond the striker, run channels and go through himself.
“That energy and drive in the middle of the pitch is something you can never have too much of and I’m pleased to have him on board.
“We spoke to him last season and made him aware we were interested but he had already got further down the line with FC United.
“He studies the game and I like that about him. You speak to him about players who you’re interested in and he knows their background.
“He’s probably a player who needs to prove this season that he’s more than good enough at the level and I think he’ll admit that.
“He takes pride in his fitness and he’s versatile. With the way we’re going to be, that’s what I’m looking for.”
Carney joins fellow midfielder Charlie Munro and defender Callum Grogan as confirmed new additions for the new campaign.
