Carden welcomes arrival of left-back Taylor

Yellows boss Paul Carden handed a debut to left-back Matthew Taylor off the bench in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Gainsborough Trinity.

Taylor, 21, joined from Harrogate Town ahead of the game and replaced Michael Rose, who had been standing in at left-back before being forced off with a back strain early in the second half.

Carden said: “He’s played in the league above, he’s got a lot of energy, wants to get forward and get on the ball and play, and we seen a little bit of that when we came on. Hopefully there’s more to come.

“We want to move Rosey back to the middle of the pitch which is where we want to play him, as with him, (Scott) Brown and Charlie (Munro) we would get a lot of control in midfield, we’ve just not had the option of that yet.

“Joel (Amado) came off last week with a heavy whack on his quad, and Tom (Warren) missed the build-up to last week after dropping out of training with a quad strain, and he may go out on loan to get some game time.”

The Yellows sit top of the Northern Premier League as the only club to have won two games out of two at the start of the season.

Atherton Collieries are next up on Tuesday night, before Whitby Town come to town for a re-arranged game on Saturday.

Carden added: “We’ve had three clean sheets in the first three games which is pleasing. That’s what I always say we are going to need to be up there come whenever the season’s going to end.

“I’ve looked across the results and there have been some unexpected ones, but I say it all the time, never be surprised by any result in the league because anyone can have an off day, and from top to bottom there is not a lot of difference between each team as a set of individuals, it might just be a more strength in depth and a bit more consistency.”
