Carden provides squad update ahead of Radcliffe

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden is giving his playing squad the opportunity to impress, but says there may be changes in the coming weeks.

He takes charge of his second game back at the Yellows with the trip to Radcliffe on Saturday, looking to build on the 1-1 draw at high-flying Chorley last week.

Carden said: “There will be changes over the coming weeks, but everyone will get the opportunity to show what they can do.

“Unfortunately, opportunities can only be in training sometimes and certain players may not get what they call the right opportunity, but if I don’t see it in training on a Tuesday and Thursday then we’re not in a position where we can take a chance.

“That’s not to say the squad hasn’t been training well, they have been excellent since I came in.

“We’re in a position where we need to add to the squad in certain areas, and if that means moving players on to bring others in, we will have to do that.

“It’s about evaluating the situation and making changes to get more positive results. Everybody [in football] is in the same boat. We need to perform, and if not, there will need to be changes.”

One new player that has been given an opportunity to stake his claim for a place in the squad is young midfielder Dana Amaral, most recently at Rylands.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Mozambique and has dual English and Portuguese nationality, was on the books at Preston North End, where he first caught Carden’s eye.

“Dana is someone I’ve been aware of and watched for a while. He is a defensive-minded midfielder, which we don’t really have at the moment.

“I’ve watched him a few times and he’s done really well, and people have spoken highly of his character and potential.

“He was desperate to come in, which is always a big factor, and he wants to try and force his way into the team and he has the opportunity now to earn his place.”

A new name on the bench in recent weeks has been Theo Farquharson, a former FC United defender, who was drafted in by Mark Canning and Nigel Keogh to help cover for the injury to Peter Clarke and the departure of Tom Hannigan.

Farquharson made his Yellows debut as a late substitute at Chorley, though illness cut short his training session this week. Clarke is working back towards a return following the operation he had on an injury picked up against Kidderminster.

Other than Clarke, Carden has a fully fit squad to call upon for the visit to Radcliffe, as the Yellows look to avenge their FA Cup defeat at home last month.
