Yellows held by Blackpool U23s

Warrington Town continued preparations for the new season with a goalless draw against Blackpool U23s at Cantilever Park.

Against well-drilled opposition, the Yellows struggled to create many clear-cut openings in the first half, although the impressive Isaac Buckley-Ricketts forced Alex McLachlan into two smart saves.

At the other end, Tony Thompson was forced into one contribution of note, diving acrobatically to his right to palm away a firm strike destined for the top corner.

The second half saw the Yellows assert more control, but they couldn’t find a breakthrough.

New signing Andy White turned home Stefan Mols’ free-kick from close range, only to see the offside flag go up, before Mikey Howard hit a wicked half-volley which flew just wide of goal.

Jay Harris then saw a late header sail agonisingly onto the roof of the net, with the visiting goalkeeper stranded.
