Woods returns to Yellows on permanent deal

Warrington Town have completed the signing of forward Connor Woods from Southport for an undisclosed fee.

Woods, 25, scored six goals in 12 appearances for the Yellows earlier this season in a successful loan spell.

He has signed on a deal until the end of the 2023/24 season, and will be available for the trip to Radcliffe this Saturday.

Manager Mark Beesley said: “It’s one we’ve been trying to work on for a long time since he came on loan.

“It’s taken time but thankfully Southport have allowed us to bring him in.

“Everyone knows the quality he’s got so it’s a massive boost for everybody going into the last few games of the season.

“With him being with us for just over two months, he knows everyone and the players are made up with the news.

“It’s given everyone a lift and I want to say a massive thank you to the chairman and everyone who helped get the deal done.

“Hopefully he can pick straight back up where he left off.”

Woods has made 14 appearances in the National League North for Southport since returning from his loan spell.

BOHAN DIXON: We’ll be ready for Radcliffe

His last game for Warrington Town was in the 3-2 win over South Shields back in November, which was the first game in the club’s current 16-game unbeaten run.

Woods scored in the league wins over Liversedge, Lancaster City and Matlock Town, as well as bagging a brace against South Shields in the FA Trophy.

Chairman Toby Macormac added: “We’re delighted to bring Connor back to the club, and we can tell from meeting with him how enthusiastic he is about being back around the squad and committed to the challenge ahead of us.

“This deal has only been possible thanks to support from sponsors NWSD. At this time of year, we have always got to be mindful of next season too, even if we’re not always sure of the circumstances we’ll find ourselves in, and so it is good to have Connor secured as negotiations continue with the existing squad.”
