Trio of winners at end-of-season Awards Night

Warrington Town players and staff joined together to celebrate the club’s success at an end-of-season Awards Night at Cantilever Park last weekend. 

Following the conclusion of the Yellows’ goalless draw at Rushall Olympic on the final day of the season, players and staff returned north for a special event commemorating Town’s debut season in the National League North.

Some of the club’s supporters were also invited to the event, in recognition of their efforts with this season’s fundraising activity towards the club’s stadium development works. 

Below, you can find a breakdown of the winners on the night.

Players’ Player of the Year: Isaac Buckley-Ricketts

Buckley-Ricketts fired the club to promotion in the most dramatic of circumstances against Bamber Bridge in the Northern Premier League play-off final.

He has picked up where he left off and enjoyed a stellar second season at the club, finishing as top scorer with 15 goals in 48 appearances.

Buckley-Ricketts also scored the club’s only hat-trick of the season, in an emphatic 6-0 win at Buxton in January. 

Manager’s Player of the Year: Connor Woods

Woods returned to the Yellows on a permanent deal in March 2023, having impressed on loan from Southport earlier in the 2022/23 campaign. 

Doubles against Bishop’s Stortford and Farsley Celtic helped Woods amass 15 goals for the season, having featured 45 times in all competitions. 

He has also proven his versatility over the course of the club’s debut season at this level, operating from both flanks and also leading the line on occasion. 

Fans’ Player of the Year: Dan Atherton

With over 800 votes cast on the Warrington Town website, the club’s supporters selected Atherton as their Fans’ Player of the Year.

Atherton returned to the club ahead of the 2023/24 season and acted as understudy to Tony Thompson in the early weeks of the season.

However, he quickly made the number one shirt his own and went on to appear 43 times in league and cup across the season, keeping nine clean sheets in total. 

Atherton also made headlines in front of goal, scoring not one but two dramatic stoppage-time levellers for the Yellows.

The shot-stopper’s first came in October as he headed home Sean Williams’ corner to rescue a 1-1 draw against Farsley Celtic in the league.

Atherton repeated the trick early in the new year, playing his part in a dramatic late comeback as the Yellows came from two goals down to earn a point at home to Alfreton Town. 

Such goal-scoring exploits have aided his status as a real fan favourite, in addition to the numerous fantastic saves he has pulled off at the other end. 

Special Recognition: Jane Rowlinson and Collette Graves

At Saturday’s Awards Night, the club also recognised the fundraising accomplishments of Jane Rowlinson and Collette Graves.

Jane and Collette have fundraised in all weather for our Yellows Groundfunder, from bucket collections/raffles to supporting our 40-mile walkers earlier this year.

In total, through their various challenges, events and one-off donations, Yellows supporters raised just short of £40,000 towards the club’s ground development works.

As thanks for their incredible efforts, Jane and Collette were presented with flowers by club captain Josh Amis and defender Evan Gumbs. 

The club are proud to have such a wonderful army of supporters willing to go the extra mile to aid the development of Warrington Town Football Club, and both Jane and Collette epitomise this with their unwavering commitment and dedication.
