Tom Hannigan: Teams will have to be on their game to stop us

Warrington Town defender Tom Hannigan insists that the Yellows will maintain their momentum as they prepare for the Easter double-header.

Town moved a step further towards solidifying their place in the playoffs following Tuesday evening’s 3-0 victory away at fellow promotion rivals Radcliffe.

The result means that the Yellows have claimed seven points from three consecutive away fixtures, and with such a dominant performance over a strong Radcliffe outfit in midweek, Hannigan suggests that the win was a statement to the rest of the league about the club’s intentions as they head into the business end of the season.

“It certainly puts us in a strong position going into the last few weeks and people can see we’re a good team,” Hannigan said.

“We’ve got to continue to do what’s been getting us success and see where it gets us.”

AWAY TRAVEL: South Shields

Goals from Connor Woods, Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and Josh Amis capped off arguably the best Yellows performance this season, given the context of the game.

“We had to withstand a bit of pressure early on but once we got used to the nature of the pitch I thought we were worthy winners,” he added.

“The two injury-time goals put the gloss on the win but they couldn’t have argued if those goals would have come sooner because we had them on the ropes for parts in the second half.”

The result also meant that the Yellows had extended their unbeaten run to 20 games, and Hannigan believes it’s a testament to the work the players and coaching staff have put in this season.

“We’ve steadily learnt to define our playing style over the season. We’ve got the tools to play a proper football match over 90 minutes but we can also mix it with the more physical teams who like to play a bit longer.

“The work Bees and Ravo put in is unquestionable, no more so than when we had consecutive weekends without a game but they made sure we got some training in to keep our fitness levels up.

“And then the lads are confident going out for games, not second-guessing anything, working hard for each other and doing the basics well.

“They should come as a given but when you’re doing well they all come a bit easier.”

Mark Beesley’s men now face a tough Easter period where they will host in-form Ashton United, who have won four of their previous five fixtures, and then travel to Marine just two days later.

Despite the challenge posed to the Yellows, Hannigan insists the squad will use all of their momentum, depth and experience to press their advantage over these next two fixtures.

“The two games bring their own challenges. It’ll be nice to get back on our home pitch after a few away games but Ashton are in a good run of form themselves at the moment so there’s no stepping off the gas,” he admitted.

“And then the quick turnaround for the Marine game on 4G. I’m sure the squad will be used to its full capacity over the weekend and we’re hoping for two positive results and see where we are come Monday evening.

“We won’t change from what we’ve been doing. Prepare right for every game, see what threats the opposition can pose us but then do our best to impose our game on them.

“We should have a quiet arrogance about us with the form we’re in and teams will have to be on their game to stop us at the minute.”
