Three standout players for Warrington Town this season

We’re nearing the finish line in the 2018/19 season, and with eight games left for the top three teams in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League, it’s all to play for in the race for the Vanarama National League North.

Farsley Celtic currently lead the way, two points ahead of the Yellows and four points clear of South Shields in third. However, it could all change in a heartbeat and each of the frontrunners will need their big players firing on all cylinders between now and the end of the season.

With that in mind, we have teamed up with betbrain.co.uk to pick out three standout players of Warrington’s 2018/19 campaign so far.

3. Mark Roberts

If it’s experience and guile that you’re after, Warrington captain Mark Roberts brings that in abundance. The 35-year-old arrived at the club with a glittering CV having played for the likes of Stevenage, Fleetwood Town and Cambridge United.

He admits that he still gets excited by the prospect of challenging at the top end of the table. If it weren’t for his grit and resilience at the back, it is possible that Town wouldn’t be in a position to challenge at all.

Paul Carden’s side have conceded just 28 goals this season and have kept a superb 16 clean sheets in the league this year.

Roberts has formed a solid partnership with former Liverpool defender David Raven, and with promotion challenges often built on a solid spine, Warrington have all the tools needed to challenge at the right end, come April 27.

2. Jack Dunn

On the theme of Liverpool, former Reds Academy star Jack Dunn has exploded back onto the scene in scintillating fashion for the Yellows.

Having been sent out on loan to Widnes FC in October, it looked like his Warrington career was struggling to gain momentum, yet five months down the line he is one of Town’s real creative sparks, lighting up games with his mesmeric left foot time after time.

The 24-year-old has netted five times in 14 games, creating numerous more chances for teammates. That figure would’ve been higher had he not picked up a hamstring injury in the Yellows’ remarkable 3-3 draw with Nantwich back in February.

Nevertheless, he is back to full fitness as Warrington gear up for the final push of the season. With very little to choose between the teams at the top, his creativity and spark could easily be the difference between automatic promotion and the play-offs.

1. Ben Garrity

Without a shadow of a doubt, Ben Garrity has been the standout signing of any club in the EVO-STIK Northern Premier League this season.

Having been playing his football in the Local Liverpool leagues, the 21-year-old was signed up by Paul Carden and co in the summer, and despite having never played for an academy side, the Merseysider has taken to semi-professional football like a duck to water.

He has been tipped to play at a higher level by both manager and fellow players, with midfield partner Robbie Evans hailing his impressive performances since linking up with the squad in the summer.

Garrity does the small things well, reading the play and cutting the passing lanes whenever there is an opportunity to do so. With an eye for a pass and the desire to be first to every loose ball, he is one of the most important cogs in this Warrington Town system.

It is no secret that Garrity is capable of playing at the highest level. For now, though, he is at the Winner Recruitment Stadium, and fans should savour his presence while he is honing his craft.
