Charlotte Navarro was the key player for the undefeated Poulton Victoria as her goals gave them the win over the Yellows in an entertaining match at Tetley Walkers.
The Yellows were coming off the back of a 3-2 win in Litherland previously, a match that could have seen Town put an extra three or four balls in the back of the net if they were more clinical in front of goal.
They looked to continue their winning ways in the league in their biggest challenge yet as they faced Vics, who had won 10 from 10 games coming into the fixture.
Unfortunately for Warrington, the three points were heading back to the Wirral.
Despite the result, the Yellows’ efforts were not to be faulted as they held the Vics to a standstill coming into the half-time intermission.
Crosses came all half from Navarro and Katy Beattie, but Town’s defensive line and goalkeeper Katie Donohue managed them well.
Poulton were expected to take the lead in the 27th minute after Ellise Newby was brought down in the box. However, Donohue had different ideas as she stopped both Beattie’s penalty and Chelcee Grimes’ follow-up to keep the game level.
The Yellows shot-stopper had one of her best performances of the season, punching dangerous balls away from danger and making great saves all game.
Player of the Match Chloe Green flourished in the midfield, leading the way and organising the players around her to contain the Vics.
Emily Savage almost gave the Yellows the lead in the 33rd minute as she received a cross from Jess Carberry and shot from inside the 18-yard box, her effort taking a deflection on the way to goal before being kept out by a good diving save from Vics 'keeper Danielle Camp.
Poulton did eventually find the net through Navarro in the 48th and 64th minute. Both goals came from shots outside of the box, the first took a bad bounce on the boggy pitch which caught Donohue out, and the second was a neat finish into the bottom corner which Donohue’s hand couldn’t keep out.
Yellows pushed to find a goal, but the Vics’ press meant that Warrington could rarely work the ball up the pitch.
When they did have the ball up the pitch, they put shots on goal that were comfortably saved by Camp.
The Yellows are in Cheshire FA Cup action next up as they face Middlewich in the quarter-finals. They will look to put in the same defensive effort and be more clinical in possession to advance through to the last four.
