Report: Warrington Town 6-0 Tranmere Rovers

Warrington Town registered a morale-boosting 6-0 win over a youthful Tranmere Rovers side in the Cheshire Senior Cup.

The Yellows scored three in each half, with Niall Watson bagging his first two goals for the club, some 32 years since his dad Liam scored for the club in the same competition.

The home side dominated the first half but had to wait 32 minutes to break the deadlock, Reece Daly converting from the penalty spot after a rather dubious foul was given as Liam Brazier chased a loose ball.

Watson’s first goal was one of two in as many minutes shortly before half-time.

He cut inside to unleash a right foot shot in to the top corner, and then Dontai Gabidon latched onto a loose clearance by goalkeeper Lewis Johnston to drive forward and fire a shot in to the corner for 3-0.

It was four inside the first minute of the second half, Matty Waters claiming his first goal for the club via a wicked deflection of his right-footed shot from the edge of the box.

The Yellows could have had more, but did get a fifth on 70 minutes when a lovely ball by 18-year-old Liam McGrath released Watson on the left and he stood a cross up for Mark Isong to head home at the back post.

And Watson, after missing two glorious opportunities, got his second with the last kick of the game, sidefooting home from Brazier’s cut back.
