The Yellows came off with a win in a five-goal-thriller against Litherland REMYCA, an own goal from Litherland aiding the result.
Town had come off the back of an excruciating 1-0 defeat to Macclesfield, an 89th minute winner sealing the win for the Silks in what was a brilliant performance from the Yellows.
They needed a win now more than ever and succeeded in doing so against bottom-of-the-league Litherland.
The Yellows had an intense start with Lilly Howarth’s shot curling inches wide of the far post just 40 seconds into the game.
Shots were continuously fired but REMYCA goalie Olivia Cooke sat comfortably in her net and stopped the Yellows’ efforts.
Unexpectedly, it was Litherland who got on the scoreboard first after an own goal from Helen Dobson gave them the lead on an unfortunate error.
Town continued to fight but struggled to find the back of the net for the rest of the first half.
Half time came and manager Tim Tack made five substitutions which sparked the Yellows’ attack, fresh substitutes Jess Carberry and Paige Vanden working the ball well up the pitch together and Vanden firing home from the edge of the goalmouth to equalise.
The Yellows’ onslaught continued after sustained pressure earned them chances and corners. It was on one corner that the Yellows took the lead after the ball deflected off of Millie Cooney and then off of Olivia Cooke and into the net.
Town kept the ball well even during Litherland’s press and the attacks continued to be dangerous but again, Warrington failed to get the ball past Cooke.
They actually found their own net when goalie Katie Donohue missed her attempted clearance after a bobbling ball bounced past her and into the net, a tragic blow for the Yellows.
However, the Yellows’ efforts weren’t up just yet; they continued to move the ball forwards well and almost took the lead again when Lily Parsons drove impressively down the field into REMYCA’s box past multiple defenders, but Cooke kept the game tied.
Success finally came in the 88th minute when Parsons set Burton up with a great through ball; the winger drove into the box with her initial shot being well-saved by Cooke but tapping home the rebound to give the Yellows another advantage again.
It was a long stoppage time that went on for 10 extra minutes with both sets of players anticipating the final whistle, which eventually did come allowing the Yellows to breathe a sigh of relief knowing that all 3 points were coming back to Warrington.
The Yellows have climbed 3 places in the table and next welcome top-of-the-league Poulton Victoria in what will be a challenging encounter for Town.
