Report: Warrington Town 1-2 Gloucester City

Gloucester City pinched a possibly priceless three points in their quest for National League North survival with a 2-1 win at Warrington Town.

Harry Pinchard capitalised on a mistake by Sean Williams in the fifth minute of injury time to sweep home and complete a turnaround and earn the visitors just their second win in nine games.

Substitute Ben Beresford had given them hope by scoring with his first touch after coming on after 75 minutes, creating space for himself on the edge of the box and firing past Dan Atherton off the inside of the post.

Before then, the Yellows had been pushing for a second goal to add to Connor Woods’ first half opener.

Woods, fresh from scoring two in the midweek win at Farsley, fired home in trademark fashion with his right-foot across the ‘keeper from just inside the box after 11 minutes.

Matty McDonald almost created a second all by himself, flicking the ball past Harlain Mbayo on half way and then going all the way along the touchline and the byline before being denied at the near post by young goalkeeper Jacob Dennis.

Gloucester’s only real chance of the first half fell to Theo Robinson, his side-footed effort well saved by the legs of Atherton.

In the second half, the Yellows pushed with Amis denied at pointblank range by Dennis off an Isaac Buckley-Ricketts pull back having moments earlier gone agonisingly close to getting on the end of a similarly teasing ball across.

Dennis got his hands to an Amis cross trying to find Buckley-Ricketts at the back post and then Matty McDonald poked wide on the stretch.

But the Yellows were made to pay for not finishing off their opponents, Beresford making an instant impact after coming on for the lively Owen Brain.

And despite no real chances of note in the final quarter, virtually the last kick of the game meant the three points went back with Gloucester, Pinchard hitting the winner to the disappointment of much of the 1,229 crowd.
