Report: Liversedge 0-4 Warrington Town

Warrington Town hit four away from home as they beat Liversedge.

Front men Connor Woods, Luke Duffy and Eddie Clarke all had a hand in three goals as the Yellows shrugged off their injury worries in West Yorkshire.

Woods poked home from a Clarke cross on the stroke of half-time, which was the least the visitors deserved.

The same two combined for the second goal on 64 minutes, Woods helping on Clarke’s cross for Duffy to finish off at the far post.

Josh Amis, who had been struggling with illness for the past week, came off the bench with 15 minutes to play and soon got on the scoresheet.

He had Woods to thank though, the on-loan Southport man was alert to intercept a pass out from the back and ran through on the ‘keeper before unselfishly squaring for Amis to tap in.

Duffy then cut in from the left and curled a lovely shot inside the far post to put icing on the cake in the 90th minute.

The team almost picked itself for Mark Beesley, although he at least had the luxury of naming captain Josh Amis on the bench after he sat out the defeat to Gainsborough through illness.

It meant Woods led the line once again and the Yellows dominated possession and territory in the first half.

Jay Harris controlled the game and he had the first shot, wide of Jordan Porter’s right hand post inside three minutes.

Liversedge sat back and the Yellows were able to get deep in to the hosts’ half without any real effort, perhaps an indication as to why the home side had lost all six of their games so far.

As the half went on, the Yellows started to find some space out wide, and low crosses across the box looked the best way of upsetting centre half pairing Kurt Harris and Jack Steers, who had been otherwise alert to any danger.

Woods couldn’t get enough on a Clarke ball from the left, before Mitch Duggan’s cross from the right evaded Duffy and sat up for Matty McDonald, who could only hook over the bar from five yards out.

They eventually broke the deadlock with virtually the last kick of the first half.

Clarke got space down the left, and his low ball across was diverted home by Southport loanee Woods for his first Yellows goal.

Liversedge, who’ve recorded positive results at places like Matlock and FC United of Manchester this season, came out with a bit more purpose in the second half, but the Yellows were rarely troubled.

Tony Thompson didn’t have a save to make, and other than a Jack Carr shot that whistled wide, the hosts didn’t go close.

The Yellows soon restored an element of control, and once Duffy had added the second, it was game over.

Amis scored for the second successive Saturday before Duffy added the pick of the goals to round off a 4-0 win, as the Yellows climbed to 11th place in the ever-competitive Northern Premier League table.
