Warrington Town’s 2021/22 Emirates FA Cup journey kicks off tomorrow with a trip to the Parkside Road Stadium to face Pitching In Northern Premier League West Division side Kendal Town.
The clash will be the FA Cup’s First Round Qualifying, with 242 teams competing over the weekend and winners receiving £2250 from the prize fund.
Regan, who has impressed so far in the 2021/22 season, discusses the importance of the cup and the dream of a successful cup run.
“As a player the FA Cup is huge,” said Regan.
“It’s definitely a game you look forward to playing in and it’s a good distraction from the league after a busy schedule to start the season, especially if you can get on a run. It’s something you dream of doing, I know there’s a few lads who have done it before so I’m hoping tomorrow we can start our own run.”
Kendal Town currently sit 19th in the West Division table, but all attention turns to the competition where anything is possible, as Marine displayed in the 2021/22 season.
The Northern Premier League side made history as they reached the third round of the FA Cup, hosting Premier League’s Tottenham Hotspur at home before falling to a respectable 5-0 defeat to then-Jose Mourinho’s men.
“You can never take anyone lightly,” said Regan.
“The FA cup is known for upsets and you never want to be on the wrong side of that. I believe we have enough to win tomorrow. If we are on our game I believe we can beat anyone but it has to be one game at a time in the Cup – it’s dangerous to over look any opponent.”
Speaking of Marine’s success, Regan added: “Seeing sides around our level getting the chance to play against teams from the Premier League can only be motivation for us to give it a go. Anything is possible but you have to take care of the early rounds as it’s such a long run to go that deep into the competition. There’s always one team that gets that chance though so why not us?
“I don’t know much about Kendal but an away game in the FA Cup is always tricky, so it’s up to us to turn up and play the way we can. If we can do that I will always expect us to win so hopefully we’ll be in the next round come Saturday evening!”
