Q&A with Chris Kiernan

The latest Q&A with Yellows goalkeeper coach Chris Kiernan about his time so far at Warrington, working with Tony McMillan and his goals for the season.

What attracted you to the Yellows?

“I’m a Warrington lad, I’ve known Toby for a long time and when he asked me to cover in the summer for Spero being away it was a simple decision.

“I loved my short time with the team and especially Tony, so when they asked me to take it more permanent I didn’t hesitate, they have a close knit squad here.

“Everyone is working with the same goal to get up to National League North, so I’m honoured to be part of that.”

How are you finding your time working with Tony McMillan and the team?

“He’s a top lad, and we are building a strong relationship.

“The standards he sets are high, and that’s important to me. I know where I need to be with what we work on.

“We’ve brought in a couple of Goalkeepers to work along side Tony and the work has been great! Performances have been good, so hopefully we can get some more clean sheets to go with the wins.”

How have you found your time at Warrington so far?

“I’m really enjoying it.

“Cards, Mark and the lads have made me feel welcome. It was made easier by helping out for three games in pre-season, so I knew what I was coming into.

“It’s a close group, so sometimes it can be hard to settle but it’s been easy for me!”

What are your personal goals at the club and goals for the team?

“Personal goals are to develop myself, working with one of the top Goalkeepers in the division in Tony, alongside a couple of younger Goalkeepers.

“I get the opportunity to learn and also impress my own coaching ability and style on the lads to keep them sharp.

“For the team, obviously we want to achieve what they did last season, which would see us promoted this time round, but we’re taking each game as it comes and hopefully at the end of the campaign it’s enough to get us where we want to be.”

How impressed have you been with Paul Carden and the squad so far?

“Cards is a great manager, I’m learning every session watching him and Bees works hard with the lads. The squads strong, and we’re starting to get lads back from injuries so hopefully that can kick us on.”
