Preview: Warrington Town vs Whitby Town

After three away fixtures in a row, Warrington Town are back in action at Cantilever Park on Saturday as they host Whitby Town in the Northern Premier League.

Mark Beesley’s side, unbeaten in eight matches, have come from behind in each of their last three games to pick up five points from a possible nine.

They are also without defeat in their last four home fixtures – a record they will be keen to extend this weekend.

The Yellows will go in search of three more points against a Whitby side struggling for form and consistency at the wrong end of the league table.

With Mark Beesley hinting at the importance of squad rotation, midfielder Stefan Mols could feature after being an unused substitute in each of the last two matches.

Another player who didn’t get any minutes on Tuesday night was Jay Harris. He is expected to be available for selection on Saturday.

Defender Tom Hannigan was forced off injured at half-time in midweek, and he will be assessed.

Yellows manager Mark Beesley says his side must continue to build on their promising recent form.

The Yellows have come away from a difficult run of fixtures without tasting defeat, and Beesley says the challenge now is to start turning promising performances into more points.

“We’re looking forward to being back at home,” he said. “We’ve played well at home as of late, but we haven’t taken as many points as we’d like.

“It’s important we play well again and it’s important we try and back this week up with a good performance and three points.”

Midfielder Matty McDonald says their recent good form gives them the impetus needed to push on in 2023.

Ahead of Whitby Town’s visit to Cantilever Park this weekend, he says the squad are keen to keep pushing pressure on the teams around them in the Northern Premier League table.

“I think we are all a little disappointed still with the amount we are drawing,” he admitted.

“Looking at some of the games, we have had plenty of chances to win them, but having an unbeaten streak is great and it gives us motivation not to lose it.

“The squad is confident, and we need to put our foot down now heading into the second half of the season.”
