Preview: Warrington Town vs Matlock Town

Warrington Town will look to make it three victories in a row this weekend when high-flying Matlock Town visit Cantilever Park in the Northern Premier League.

Following Tuesday night’s 1-0 win at Lancaster City, the Yellows will hope to extend their two-game winning streak and climb as high as second in the table, depending on other results. 

However, it promises to be a tough test against a Matlock Town side high on confidence following last Saturday’s 2-1 win at Rylands. 

Team News

Bohan Dixon is available for selection, having served the three-match ban he acquired following his red card in the Warrington derby.

Despite being sent off in midweek, versatile defender Mitch Duggan is available to play as his ban does not kick in until next week. 

Jordan Buckley and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts are nearing returns to action but will be unavailable, whereas Andy White could come back into the side after being absent from the matchday squad last time out.

Warrington have faced the Gladiators on 12 previously occasions, winning six, drawing three and losing three.

However, the Yellows lost both fixtures last season as Matlock came away with 2-0 victories, both home and away. 

Mark Beesley Preview

Second-placed Matlock Town did not feature in the latest midweek round of fixtures, meaning Town will be up against a largely fresh outfit.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash, Yellows manager Mark Beesley admits it will be a tough test for his side.

“It’s a big game, and they’re a really good team,” he said. “They’ve got new management who have invested well in good players.

“They didn’t play in midweek either, so they’ll be well rested. It’s a game that we’ve got to be ready for.”

Tony Thompson preview

Goalkeeper Tony Thompson has urged Warrington Town’s squad to let their team spirit fuel their momentum.

Despite coming up against in-form opposition on Saturday, he admits the squad are focusing on their own performances, given the unpredictable nature of the league.

“We’re just concentrating on ourselves now, and controlling the controllables,” he said.

“I see that Matlock are on a good run, but so are we. As I’ve said all season, the performances have been there, but now it’s time to match them with the results as well.”
