Warrington Town return to home soil on Tuesday night as Atherton Collieries visit Cantilever Park in the Pitching In Northern Premier League.
With their unbeaten record still in tact following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with newly-promoted Belper Town, the Yellows will look to record their third victory of the season against a side they conquered home and away during the 2021/22 campaign.
They enter the latest round of midweek fixtures joint-top of the division, with three other sides tied on seven points from a possible nine.
The Yellows beat Colls 2-0 on both occasions last season.
Matty Regan and Josh Amis secured all three points at Cantilever Park in August, before Stefan Mols’ penalty and another for Amis sealed victory in the reverse fixture at the Skuna Stadium last April.
Mark Beesley’s side have conceded just once in their last four meetings against Colls, and there has never been a goalless draw between the two sides.
Warrington Town manager Mark Beesley says improvements must be made after their 100% winning start to the new season came to an end last weekend.
Town had chances to seal all three points at Christchurch Meadow, but they failed to convert them and missed out on the chance to go outright top of the division after the opening three rounds of matches.
“They create an atmosphere, and we didn’t deal with it very well in the first half,” he said. “I thought we were too slow. We’ve been really good at moving the ball quickly in pre-season, but I didn’t think we moved it well.”
Warrington Town defender Tom Hannigan hopes his new side can make winning a habit as they look to maintain their positive start to the new season.
Hannigan helped the Yellows kick off the new season with back-to-back clean sheets, and also opened his account for the club with a close range header against Stalybridge Celtic.
“Winning breeds confidence and it becomes a habit, so hopefully we can continue the good start,” he said.
