Preview: Stafford Rangers v Warrington Town

The Yellows head into the weekend following wins in both the league and in the Cheshire Senior Cup.

Paul Carden’s side progressed into the quarter-finals of the Cheshire Senior Cup with a 4-1 win at Sandbach United on Tuesday evening.

Will Harris scored his first goal for the Yellows before bagging a brace in the second half, while teammates Mitch Duggan and Bohan Dixon also got on the scoresheet for the side.

In the league, a goal for Jordan Buckley – his first since joining the club – saw the side defeat Radcliffe 1-0 at Cantilever Park to reclaim a spot in the play-offs.

Stafford Rangers currently sit bottom of the table, with a record of two wins and six draws.

They also recently had success in the Cup, defeating Boldmere St Michaels 2-1 in the Walsall Senior Cup Quarter Final, with Brad Grayson and Jake Charles scoring for the side.

HEAD TO HEAD

The two sides last met earlier in the season in November, with Tony Gray striking late to claim back-to-back home victories.

The striker headed home the winner two minutes from time to claim the three points in front of a crowd of 374 at Cantilever Park.

Stafford took the lead through Paul Bignot as he converted from a corner to give the visitor’s a 1-0 advantage, before Ben Garrity equalised in the 71st minute and Gray scoring the winner.

MANAGER’S COMMENTS

“In the league, I think the way the season has been is the same for a lot of clubs. You can look at South Shields at the top who have stretched it a little bit, but they haven’t had it plain sailing. In and around when we played them, they weren’t having a great run themselves and they lost a couple and had some unexpected results. Any time they drop points, it’s unexpected.

“I’m just pleased that we’re getting the squad back. We have been stretched and people have been opinionated over letting people go and when we’re letting them go, but you’ve got to be looking past what’s in front of you in terms of knowing what players are coming back. I think we let a few players go and we believe that the squad now is getting back to full strength. That’s what the plan always was, to be in and around the play-offs and we are right now. I feel we are in a good position in the strength in the squad and ready to keep moving if we can.”
