Preview: Spennymoor Town vs Warrington Town

Warrington Town are on their travels for their final mid-week trip of the season as they make the journey to the north-east to face Spennymoor Town in the National League North.

The Yellows come into this fixture on the back of a battling 3-2 defeat at home to Darlington last weekend.

Paul Carden's side will make the 278-mile round trip to Spennymoor tonight as they look to end their four-game losing streak in the league.

At the same time, the Moors will be keen to close the six-point gap between themselves and a spot in the playoffs, but they will also have one eye on Wembley, with an FA Trophy semi-final on the horizon against Rochdale this weekend.

Below, we've compiled everything you need to know ahead of the fixture.

Team news

Jack Hont is sidelined after being forced off injured in the first half against Darlington, as are Jay Harris and Devarn Green.

Sam Gill, who has been featuring for Northwich Victoria, comes into contention with Dana Amaral still working his way back to fitness.

Paul Carden preview

Warrington Town manager Paul Carden is expecting a tough fight for his side in their final mid-week fixture of the season against Spennymoor Town this evening.

While the Moors will already have an eye on their upcoming FA Trophy semi-final tie at the weekend, they will want to make amends in front of a home crowd following their heavy 4-0 defeat to Chorley in the National League North last Saturday.

Despite this, Carden believes that his side will cause problems for the hosts should they replicate the level of performance they displayed against Darlington.

"I know they were beaten pretty convincingly on Saturday but with the type of players Spennymoor have got, I know they will want to bounce back and go into their semi-final in better shape," Carden said.

"We know it’s not going to be easy, but there is always that thought that you’re hoping they have one eye on their game on Saturday, which could give us an opportunity.

"If we apply ourselves like we did on Saturday, I’ll be happy because we’ll definitely cause problems.

"I think we’ll struggle with Jay Harris and Jack Hont. They add to the list but Ollie Southern should be okay, as should Hamish Douglas,” he added.

"We’ll probably bring Sam Gill in. Hopefully he’s come through while playing for Northwich because he’s been carrying a knock as well, and we had Murphy Bennett out of the squad as well.

"We should have numbers and bodies available, and the lads who finished Saturday’s game will have recovered right ready for another game on the road."
